Geoffrey Ovington, 2005
Geoffrey Ovington, 2005
Geoffrey Ovington is considered one of the finest of contemporary makers world wide. His workmanship is outstanding, his modeling precise, and his ability to create great-playing instruments is difficult to surpass. This is modeled after a David Tecchler, 1704 instrument. Tecchler was a German who emigrated to Italy, worked during the same years as Stradivari, and was considered one of the best makers of cellos ever. This is a truly beautiful cello in almost new condition, amazingly rich in texture which, coupled with an unfailing focus, makes it suitable for the most demanding solo work as well as orchestral or chamber music use. And yes, its great sound is very easily produced. We had the great privilege of meeting Geoff some years ago in his Shustan, NY shop and found him to be a very warm and caring human being. There is more information on Geoff, published following his death in 2017. at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/149231825105607/posts/it-is-with-great-sorrow-that-we-share-the-news-of-the-passing-of-one-our-colleag/1766189753409798/
